The Push And Pull Within NBC; Post Falco And Zaslav

AdAge does a good post-Randy-Falco-and-David-Zaslav-senior-departures story from NBC in the last two weeks, and mentions that NBC won’t fill the positions these two are leaving. It says that these departures have accelerated major internal changes to an organizational chart already shaken up as part of $750 million in cost savings (that NBC 2.0 initiative).
Falco was regarded as a strong operational executive, and Zaslav was seen as a talented young up-and-comer, yet neither executive will be directly replaced. Instead NBC Universal is looking to a new generation of leaders, among them Jeff Gaspin, president, NBC Universal cable entertainment, digital content and cross-network strategy; Bonnie Hammer, president, USA Network and Sci-Fi Channel; Lauren Zalaznick, president, Bravo; Marianne Gambelli, exec VP, NBC Universal sales and marketing; and Bridget Baker, exec VP, NBC Universal Cable. FT also does a story about the changes at various media companies, and name checks George Kliavkoff, who was appointed to be its chief digital officer, in August.
The story says something we’ve heard too: speculation is rife over who might leave the company to join their departed colleagues at AOL or Discovery, with NBC Universal President-Ad Sales and Marketing Keith Turner top of that list. Meanwhile, Beth Comstock, NBC Universal’s president-digital media and market development, has been making the rounds at media agencies and expanding her footprint within NBC Universal.
