Sify Communications (SifyComm) Ltd, a Sify subsidiary, has received the go-ahead from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to offer National and International Long Distance telephony services in India. Sify has thus transferred its VPN business to SifyComm. The licence also allows Sify to offer Domestic Leased Circuits and International Private Leased Circuits, i.e. leased broadband lines. The broadband space seems to be gearing up for a change – TRAI seems to be interested in unbundling the last mile and regulating leased line prices to enable competition; now Sify, already an established broadband player, has received permission to offer leased line services.
