Qtel is launching a DVB-H trial in Qatar to correspond with the Asian Games (to be held in Doha during the first half of December). The service will be free during the pilot phase and offer 13 TV channels including “sport, entertainment and TV news channels from reputable domestic and international broadcasters such as Al Jazeera, CNN and CNBC. The service will be accessible in the Greater Doha area”. Although any DVB-H handset can pick up the signal, there aren’t any in Qatar at the moment — Qtel and DAGOC (Daho Asian Games Organizing Committee) are ordering in 1380 for the trial. I guess people can also order a handset from overseas, if they’ve got the cash. The commercial launch is expected sometime in 2007.
