It’s official … Akamai Technologies, the content delivery network bigfoot based in Cambridge, Mass., will acquire privately held Nine Systems , based in San Diego — and the CND industry will get a little smaller with the consolidation. Nine Systems’ Stream OS rich media management suite will be integrated into the Akamai network. Announced early this morning, the deal, expected to close this quarter, is valued at about $160 million — about 3.1 million Akamai shares and approximately $7 million in cash and ; Akamai closed Friday at $49.25.
