Toshiba Portege gets embedded HSDPA

Toshiba_m400_1 Ah, the beauty of RSS Newsreaders. Without them I never would have seen the news from Al Bawaba indicating that Toshiba has integrated an HSDPA cellular radio in the Portege M400 Tablet PC. The new Portege M400-3G allows for wireless Internet connectivity wherever you can find the 3G signal supported. Typical for HSDPA speeds, the Tablet will experience wireless download speeds up to 1.8 Mbps, with real world usage likely around a 768 Kbps ADSL line…only without the line.

The new Tablet PC configuration was demonstrated by Toshiba at the Gitex trade show; no word on price but Tablet PC users in the Middle East can expect this wireless integration the first quarter of 2007. No word on availability elsewhere, nor is there a configuration option on Toshiba’s U.S. product page for HSDPA. Toshiba previously did (and still does) offer the M400 with a comparable integrated EV-DO radio for the Verizon Wireless network. With Cingular’s HSDPA rollout in full effect, I’d expect we see an HSDPA M400 here within the next 2-4 months.
