Strategy Analytics has released the results of a user experience benchmark showing that people were more impressed with Virgin Mobile’s DAB TV Service that Vodafone’s 3G streaming effort (which was rated the highest before the launch of DAB). From the graph, the biggest perceived differences were in network performance and usability. There was far less difference in the scores of content and audiovisual quality (which is a little odd). Still, Paul Brown — wireless analyst at Strategy Analytics — is quoted as saying that “Users were impressed by the quality of the audiovisual experience offered by the Virgin service” and “most users preferred the mainstream terrestrial programming available on the Virgin service, over the ‘premium’ content offered by the Vodafone/BSkyB collaboration”.
Kevin Nolan, Director of the Advanced Wireless Laboratory, said that half the users who tested the DAB service said they would consider adopting mobile TV based on this experience (consider, not actually do so).
