Control Room, Universal Deal May Make Live Online Events Easier

Universal Music Group is busy on the deal front these days .. this time it’s a master pact billed as first-of-a-kind with Control Room (formerly known as Network Live) to allow the production company to create and distribute live programming for artists under UMG’s affiliate and partner labels without negotiating individually for each show. Based on the details for the first concert, the deal appears to have considerable promotional recognition built in. The emphasis may be on live but the first concert under the agreement will be a Snoop Dogg event pre-recorded in San Francisco that will begin streaming on MSN Nov. 20, the day before the artists’ latest album debuts; the broadcast includes a sneak preview. The UMG concerts will appear on MSN, DirecTV, Qualcomm MediaFLO and various international partners.
