Spectrum Allocation For WiMax In India Questioned By WiMax Forum

The global WiMax forum Forum has questioned the TRAI recommendations on spectrum allocation for Broadband Wireless Access in India, according a report in the Economic Times: Ron Resnick, Chairman and President of the WiMax forum says that spectrum needs to be allocated in the 2.5Ghz band (a misquote, I think. He probably meant the 2.5-2.69 Ghz band mentioned earlier in the report). A bandwidth of only 100 Mhz in the 3.3-3.4 Ghz band has been allocated in India, with DoT getting 100 Mhz in the 3.4-3.6 Ghz band. The department of space is not vacating spectrum in the 2.5-2.69 Ghz band. According to the WiMax forum, this will lead to India’s isolation on the global stage. They also don’t endorse only 15Mhz being allocated to each player, since most global WiMax equipment is configured to work on 20Mhz.
