Mobile Subscribers To Reach 2.6 Billion This Year — Report

Telecom Asia: Isuppli has forecast that the development of ultra-low-cost handsets will see the global number of mobile phone subscribers rise to 2.6 billion this year and 4 billion by 2010. The growth is expected to come from India, China, Africa and the Middle East. Since this boost is based on low-end handsets it doesn’t add much to the mobile content market, except for text-based services.
