BBC Worldwide’s new Digital head: Jemma Adkins has been appointed head of content for the digital division of BBC Worldwide…she will be responsible for expanding the digital media content catalog that will power the BBC’s proposed iPlayer, as well as its mobile and video-on-demand services.
Commercial challenge to BBC iPlayer: The British Interactive Publishers Alliance – which counts of News International, Sky Interactive, the Guardian, Trinity Mirror and the Telegraph Group among its members- is calling for an expert forum to discuss opening up the BBC’s iPlayer to commercial content to stop it dominating the download and on-demand market…Bipa further argues that the iPlayer is a commercial endeavor and that questions of revenue, cost and investment would be more transparent if it was housed at BBC Worldwide and made to operate as a commercial entity. Associated Northcliffe appoints This Is digital network chief: Associated Northcliffe Digital has appointed Mike Rowley to the newly created position of digital director across the This Is network, which includes This Is London. Reporting to Mark Milner, managing director of AN Digital Integrated Media, Rowley will be tasked with developing Associated Northcliffe’s digital activities and with the company’s regional managing directors. Prior to this, Rowley was digital director of the Evening Standard.
News Group integrates on- and offline sales teams: The News Corporation-owned UK publisher has unveiled plans for a makeover to the company’s advertising sales function, designed to give the team power to cover print and digital platforms and led by media director Mark Chippendale.
