China’s largest mobile operator China Mobile, which recently tied up with media giant News Corp (by taking a 20 percent stake in Phoenix Satellite Television from Star Group, the Asia-based TV and entertainment subsidiary of News Corp.), has extended the ties further by kicking off a joint mobile music service Saturday.
China Mobile will provide the download service, while the Star Group will engage in music production and promotion…Channel [V] and Star TV, operated by News Corp, will produce music videos for the best songs as voted by Chinese mobile/Internet users and music professionals.
The firm in July launched a music club, partnering with major record companies such as Universal, EMI, Warner and Sony BMG, to offer a one-stop service to China Mobile subscribers including copyrighted music downloads and sharing.
