Telecom Asia: Chinese internet portal Tom Online has reported a severe drop in year-on-year earnings and profit after Chinese mobile carriers implemented tighter regulations for companies offering mobile content. Tom Online said its third quarter earnings fell 59% after the policy changes, while its net income fell to $5.3 million from $12.9 million in the same period last year. “Revenues for Tom’s games, short messages and other wireless services fell 19.6% to $34.7 million due to policy changes by China’s mobile phone companies, the company said.”
