Cellular News is reporting that Movistar — a subsidiary of spanish giant Telefonica — is planning a mobile TV service in some of its markets in Latin America. “In order to use the service, clients must have a mobile device with video streaming capacity. Movistar said it would only charge for the data traffic. This service is available in Brazil, Chile, Peru and Uruguay, Movistar Argentina marketing director DarĂo Fainguersh said.” No further details were given, such as what would be broadcast, but I’m pretty sure that the data charges in those countries are prohibitive enough that the service won’t be a huge success.
