San Mateo, CA-based Turn, a search advertising networking going up against Google, has attracted $18 million in venture backing from Norwest Venture Partners, Trident Capital and Shasta Ventures in recent months, reports AdWeek. Turn has about 1,000 advertisers in its system, which displays ads on approximately 30 sites.
The company has been founded by Jim Barnett, former CEO of AltaVista. Turn operates on a cost-per-action scheme, compared to others with a CPC basis (Idealab-backed Snap also does CPA).
