Luke Johnson Phone Experiment: Accuracy In Advertising

Luke Johnson decided to post a video on YouTube with his mobile phone number (he bought a flat-rate phone from Cricket for the purpose) and ask people to call him (I’m not sure why either). Thousands of people did, but for me the interesting part of the story was this line: “Johnson said he recently received his first phone bill from Cricket–and, true to advertising, it was $45. He said he’d been nervous about whether international calls might affect the bill, but those fears turned out to be groundless.” The lack of transparency in mobile phone bills is a big issue with consumers, and one of the things holding back mobile content. In this case the telco backed up its claims (go Cricket) but everyone in the industry hears horror stories about “bill shock”.
