Yahoo India is on a localisation drive. The online giant has launched Kannada chat plug-in on Yahoo Indichat for its Messenger 8.0 and above. It had recently launched Indichat in Hindi and Tamil. The Kannada chat plug-in has been designed and built by the Yahoo India Research & Development centre in Bangalore. It plans to add on other languages too – like Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Malayalam.
Internet companies have to localise to capitalise on the next wave of growth. If online subscribers have to reach 100 million and above, then local language applications like these have to supplement the growth. [Press release here]
