Sprint Nextel’s mobile music store is now one year old (perfect timing for a little jab at Cingular), and the operator reports the service has “handled 8 million song downloads during its first year of service”. The songs go for $2.50 each, about the highest price around. That’s a healthy number, but it can’t be translated into revenue because of the free songs Sprint gives away to lure in customers, and the 3-for-2 promotions, and so on.
