–Virgin Mobile has added ITN News to its mobile TV service, joining various BBC programs, ITV1 and some other channels on its DAB service. ITN News is a 24-hour news service. The DAB service is 5 pounds a month (or free included with a 25 pound per month contract).
–Rubik’s Cube hits the mobile, in a join-the-colors-and-the-blocks-disappear game.
–Thumbplay is targeting the Latin Grammys, introducing “a first-ever special collection of Latin ringtones and wallpapers, highlighting the hottest talent from past and present Latin GRAMMY nominees, with music from Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, India, Grupo Mania, Wisin y Yandel and others…Thumbplay user downloads of Latin music ringtones have increased 79 percent in the last two weeks as excitement builds for the 7th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards ceremony on Nov. 2, 2006.”
–There’s a pretty serious mobile campaing for Universal Pictures upcoming Miami Vice. It’s being run by July Systems, Player X and Ericsson IPX, and is in 17 territories on four continents. “The service combines official movie content created by Player X in partnership with Universal Mobile Entertainment including teasers, wallpapers, ringtones, merchandise and the Miami Vice mobile game to give Miami Vice fans a place to have fun and interact with the brand and each other. The site is fully integrated into the movie marketing campaign covering outdoor and print advertising, PR and online marketing in territories within Europe, Asia, Australia and America Premium SMS billing and one-click WAP billing for the Miami Vice service was powered by Ericsson IPX.”
–AskMeNow has expanded its search to include ringtone and wallpaper sales, but there’s not a huge catalogue — “more than 5,000 ringtones and true tones from hip hop, country and hard rock artists, television and movie themes, and college fight songs. The company will also sell 2,500 wallpapers”. They’ll go for $2-3 each.
