This article points out that South Korea and Japan lead the way in mobile TV, digital imaging and so on, which isn’t news. But there’s an interesting statistic: “Nearly 14% of all mobile handsets in South Korea support Digital Mobile Broadcast television.” Of course, there’s two types of DMB, and I’d like to get a figure on how many are currently using the service to see how important that 14% figure is. Back in June the T-DMB service had 1 million customers, and was doing better than the S-DMB service.
Someone who works at a Korean software company passed on these figures he had heard: “There are approx 1M s-dmb handsets and 3M t-dmb handsets.” The figures probably include devices that can receive the signals but aren’t mobile phones.
