I watched quite a bit of the Mahurat trading session on Diwali, but missed this: over the past couple of years, one has often heard that the National Stock Exchange has been one up on the Bombay Stock Exchange. On Diwali, the BSE launched a Hindi portal with the ticker, announcements and investor guidance in Hindi. This follows the launch of their portal in Gujarati. The BSE also has launched a mobile alert feature called MobiTrack which allows users to access sensex quotes, as well as a bookmarked set of quotes if they have a Webx login ID. The data is refreshed every 30 seconds. There are more features available via GPRS access, including top gainers and losers and data on sectoral indices. Content will eventually drive GPRS usage, and I see this as quite an important step in that direction. The Webx ID, however, is available only via those brokers who have registered for it, so that will probably limit usage. I tried locating my broker via BSE’s WebX search, and I couldn’t find anything. It seems to be a premium service.
