Third-place Japanese telco Softbank had to stop taking customers twice over the weekend, as the rush of people changing carriers now that number portability is introduced threatened to overwhelm the system. It wasn’t the Yahoo connection that did it, but cheap prices and the promise its service fee would always be 200 yen cheaper than its rivals.
