Expedia Scouting For India Team, Country Head

Global online travel company Expedia Inc is setting up shop in India, most probably in the first quarter of 2007. The company is said to be scouting for a country head for India, reports The Economic Times. Besides, the company is also setting up a team which will handle alliances with hotels, airlines and car rental companies, besides other ground work. The report says, quoting Expedia Asia Pac President Barney Harford, that the travel portal would first focus on launching its hotel content in India, followed by airlines and car rentals.
Expedia rival Travelocity had appointed Himanshu Singh, former group head of global distribution and electronic sales and marketing at Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, as the managing director of its operations in India. Travelocity is expected to kick off operations in India by year end. Singh has earlier worked with Hotel Leela Venture and Traveljini.com.
