Shockwave Minis Launched On Verizon

Shockwave (associated with Atom Entertainment and MTV) has launched a bunch of games on Verizon Wireless, created with Adobe Flash Lite. Adobe was boasting more than 115 million Flash handsets worldwide yesterday, although I don’t know how many Verizon has. However, Dave Williams, SVP Games at Shockwave told MocoNews the compatible Verizon handsets include The V (LG VX9800), Motorola RAZR V3c, Motorola RAZR V3m and Samsung SCH-a950, and also that there’s a BREW application which lets some handsets run Flash applications. I’m pretty sure most of the Flash games fall into the “casual” category, which is the biggest on mobiles. “The majority of the games were produced and developed in house by Shockwave.com and by developers in the Shockwave Studio,” said Williams. “We’re always looking for great Flash Lite developers and games to bring to the platform. We also partnered with CELL Co. Ltd, the leading developer of Flash Lite mobile content in Japan, to distribute localized versions of their five most popular games through the Shockwave Minis service.” The games also include SpongeBob SquarePants Escape and Pimp My Ride Hitchhike, billed as “the first of many joint content projects” between Shockwave and MTV.
Verizon will sell the games for a $3.49 per month subscription fee to all of them, or for download in packs of 3,5 or 10 from $3.99. The games are exclusive on Verizon at the moment — I don’t know whether that’s a permanent thing of it was just the first carrier to have them.
