With Japan just about to get mobile number portability (finally) the carriers are starting initiatives to prevent their customers jumping ship. This includes funky new handsets and making sure the music services are up to scratch — except for Softbank, which is touting its Yahoo connections. It’s fighting the music side with iPods: “Teaming up with Apple Computer Inc., Softbank also started a sales campaign to offer a handset and an iPod player. Prices for the two products differ from store to store, but they hover around 13,000 yen — cheaper than just an iPod player alone, according to Softbank. This offer is exclusively for customers with a contract exceeding 26 months…”If you want to listen to music, you should use iPod.
