This is one way of promoting a social networking space. Kaneva, a social networking space with a 3D world, that also allows users to share their multimedia content is hosting a film festival for films that concern the NRI diaspora: The Atlanta Indo-American Film Festival (AIAFF) has been organized by the Indo-American Film Society (IAFS) in association with the Independent Media Artists of Georgia (IMAGE) and the Indo-American Arts Council New York, taking place November 10-14, 2006, in Atlanta, Georgia. The films have to be uploaded at Kaneva, and the winners will be selected by votes polled at Kaneva. More details here.
I’m wondering if such a promotion can help in the long term, and if such an effort can work here in India. We’re still bogged down by limited bandwidth, but international festivals (like the one for Sikhs) saw participation from school kids in India. There’s no reason why someone can’t attempt the same here.
