Chris Ambrosio, director of Wireless Device Strategies Service at Strategy Analytics has used the collapse of Mobile ESPN to illustrate what he thinks MVNOs need to do in order to be successful. First point is to remember that 89% of operator revenues comes from voice, so they have to make sure that consumers know they can handle all the basic phone functions as well as the high-end stuff. According to Ambrosio MVNOs need to do all the things other carriers do to get customers (subsidize handsets, offer variety, etc) and then upgrade the customers to the rich media stuff later.
