Canada’s TV Guide Goes Web-Only As Of Nov. 25

After years of trying everything from larger size to more celebrity news while circulation slid from 1 million to less than 250,000, owner Transcontinental will publish the last edition of the Canadian version of TV Guide Nov. 25. If those moves sound familiar its because they’ve been mirrored of late by the U.S. version owned by News Corp.’s Gemstar-TV Guide International. The U.S. publisher is counting on a reva,ped web site paired with the print changes. But the Canadian publisher now will be counting on the web — and online advertising — . Natalie Lariviere, the president of Transcontinental Media, told the NYT: “This publication is different. It is time-sensitive. The Internet is a platform that can allow us to do more updates and provide richer content.” The company describes it as a “Web magazine.”
