Sprint chooses Qualcomm’s PTT for EV-DO Rev. A walkie-talkies

Sprint_logo_1Here I thought EV-DO Rev. A would just bring us faster wireless upload speeds, but Sprint will be using it in 2008 to optimize their PTT services. PTT, or push-to-talk, is the walkie-talkie-like service you see and hear on so many Nextel (now Sprint) phones. Sprint announced yesterday that they’ve settled on a PTT solution from Qualcomm called "Q-chat" which will bridge the PTT gap between the old Nextel and the new Sprint infrastructure. Using the Q-Chat solution, PTT will be enabled between the two networks making for one happy (and chatty) Sprint network family, as in "together with Nextel". Personally, I can’t make out what any of these PTT folks are saying, but maybe it’s just me. Anyone use PTT here?
