MTV Acquires Quizilla, Launches Video Service With Baidu


MTV has made one of its “smaller internet acquisitions” in the form of teen UGC site The site is said to be profitable and has around 3.1 million unique users each month. Steve Youngwood, EVP for digital at MTVN Kids & Family: “We are all about super-serving our audience — in this case teenage girls — and this sees us continuing down that road to make this a destination site with a deeper sense of social networking.” The purchase price wasn’t disclosed.
MTV/ partner: MTV is to offer music videos and Nickelodeon shows for free through China’s The service will be ad-supported or will be provided free for music download customers. MTV describes it as its “first video content alliance in China.” Launch advertiser is Motorola.
