Asia/Pacific Mobile Music Revenues Soaring

In-Stat has issued a report finding that “from almost nothing five years ago, the mobile music market in Asia/Pacific grew to US$3.3 billion in 2005, and will reach US$9.3 billion by 2010.” It goes on to claim that the breakthrough years in the region will be 2007 & 2008, as China and India reach a critical mass of mobile subscribers and 3G networks become more prevalent. Although ringtones have been the primary driver for mobile music growth in the past, In-Stat reckons future growth will come from ringback tones and full music tracks. The mobile music industry in South Korea is already larger than the country’s conventional music industry, and China is predicted to have a mobile music market worth US$2.8 billion in 2010, second only to Japan which is predicted to have US$3.4 billion in revenues in 2010.
Warner Music seems to have already used these stats, saying that Asia is the driving force for demand for mobile music.
