RFE/RL: Directorâ

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty is a private, international communications service to Eastern and Southeastern Europe; Russia; the Caucasus; and Central and Southwestern Asia funded by the U.S. Congress through the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
We are currently seeking an experienced technical manager to help lead our continuing transformation into the Internet Age. The job is based in Prague, Czech Republic.
Position Summary:
The Director oversees all online technical operations with special focus on system administration, 24/7 operations, development and usability and design for RFE/RL’s 19 Web sites in 24 languages. We are looking for a leader for a growing team of ca. 15 who can help implement Best Practices and industry standards throughout the online operation including: system administration and new hardware/software deployment; project management and application development; testing and deployment; and design and UI protocols, including the development of site maps, wireframes and mock-ups. Online and mobile presence in our markets is a key part of corporate purpose so close cooperation with broadcasting management on strategic alignment is central to the job. The goal is usable well-designed and well-functioning Web sites which complement the multi-media strategy of a state-of-the-art converged broadcasting organization with a very special history and mission.
Required Qualifications:
– Strong background as a technology manager, with experience leading a consumer-facing, high-traffic, high-availability, high-transaction 24/7 online operation.
– Five to ten years of professional experience that includes both front and back-end Web infrastructure development.
– Track record in directing application development, infrastructure operations and architecture functions in a complex, multi-site environment.
– Solid history in application deployment and/or systems admin, including creating technical solutions.
– Content Management Systems experience.
– Exceptional project management and delivery skills.
– Analytical and leadership skills, demonstrating congenial attitude with ability to interact in a diverse workforce.
– Demonstrable record of outstanding client interaction and communication and presentation skills on technical issues to all organizational levels.
– Proven ability to coach and develop junior technical staff and develop a professional work environment reflecting best practice in project management and quality analysis.
– Experience in budget development and oversight.
– Professional fluency in written and spoken English.
– University degree in Computer Science or Engineering or other relevant field.
Valuable Pluses:
– As RFE/RL is a .Net shop, experience with IIS and SQL server applications or operations.
– Knowledge of one or more of RFE/RL’s broadcast languages.
– Experience living and working outside of one’s home country.
– Experience in a news environment.
