After BPO, KPO, and MPO (media process outsourcing), here is a new short in the outsourcing business. It’s ESO – Educational Services Outsourcing. A PTI article says ESO can become big business since high cost of tuitions in the US and European markets force parents there to put their children into online learning administered by Indian and Pakistani teachers.
Kiran Karnik, president of Nasscom, the software industry assocation in India, is upbeat about the potential. According to Shantanu Prakash of Educomp Solutions, it’s an $8-billion opportunity.
Already companies like TutorVista is looking to dip into this opportunity. But the big challenge will be to get teachers and train them to suit the American and European markets’ needs.
