Here is a latest study by Internet And Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) which says that E-mail and chat are no longer primary internet traffic drivers, but it’s research and information that prompts people to log on to the net more often. A 32 per cent active users of the internet in India use the internet as the primary source for information and research in 2006, up from just 20 per cent in 2001, says the study. During the previous survey, the primary drivers of internet traffic were e-mail and chat.
The research says that with the emergence of applications like online ticketing, weblogs, product information and previews, active internet users attribute information as their primary application. More details of the study here.
