– NBC to Stream Pale Force: NBC plans to launch an original digital series, Pale Force, which is drawn from a series of animated sketches that have been featured on Late Night With Conan O’Brien…Starting on Oct. 12, new webisodes of Pale Force will debut each Friday on NBC.com, and will also be available for Sprint subscribers to view on their mobile devices – one week in advance of their online debut.
— Nick Lets Youngsters Make Own Cartoons: Nick has just made available on its Web site technology that allows young fans to make cartoon mashups of different scenes from favorites like “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Avatar” and distribute them to their friends.
— Showtime Offers a Web Taste: Showtime plans to offer top-tier shows including “Weeds” on Yahoo TV…The Web preview of selections from Showtime’s slate, a first for a premium cable channel, will run Oct. 6-13.
— RipeTV Casts Net for Young Males: The question for many advertisers will be whether the volume of ads on Ripe’s service turns off viewers. Not only does the network run conventional commercials before and after the programming, it also sells ads that border the programming; logos that jump out of the screen; commercials that take up the bottom third or left side of the screen; or a logo that appears almost continuously…. it expects to get $5 million in ad revenues this year.
— Champions League games to be shown online in ITV deal: In UK, ITV.com has teamed with digital rights company Premium TV, to stream live coverage of the Uefa Champions League over broadband.
— BBC iPlayer tests get extended deadline: In UK, The BBC and Ofcom have extended the deadline for the BBC iPlayer’s market impact and public value testing, following demands for more information. The BBC iPlayer has been developed to deliver all of the corporation’s audio and video programming content on demand via the internet and cable.
— IPTV No Threat Until 2008: So says Goldman Sachs, in a note it sent out to clients earlier this month… IPTV roll-outs outside North America appeared to have stalled and were unlikely to regain momentum before 2008. The bank also noted that the take-up of IPTV remained relatively low in Taiwan and several European countries such as France, Spain and Italy.
