Life (in Beta)

More suggested reading from Om: “Give yourself permission to suck,” by Pamela Slim.

Pamela advocates releasing early versions of just about anything. Sounds all too familiar for me, having spent a good bit of the last couple years signing up for and reviewing the flakey beta versions of web apps. But she extends the “release early and often” ethos to newsletters, podcasts, and any sort of product.

Like most anything, this could be taken too far. Do you find yourself explaining away everyday mishaps as pilot projects? Sorry honey…that souffle was in beta.

Speaking of permission to suck, I think the design of this blog needs to be reconsidered because the yellow-on-bright-red post title actually interferes with reading experience.

I hope you don’t take this comment the wrong way. I just couldn’t stand it any longer.

Cooking is all about experimentation…

More seriously, I think an attitude of “let’s try this and see what happens” – coupled with a quick recognition of errors/mistakes and taking responsibility for those mistakes (and then improving) is a very healthy approach to business (and to life)
