The Times of India reports that the Finance Minister wants Income Tax department to explore online auctions for auctioning off the 60-70 properties that they have seized. Offline auctions have not received an encouraging response, so the government wishes to increase participation by using online auctions. The problem is that the government rules themselves don’t allow electronic auction of property. That, of course, can be changed. Realty Firm CB Richard Ellis has been consulted by the tax department on the process.
Well, the government certainly seems keen on making money online. Maybe they can also consider shifting form processing to a digital format so one doesn’t have to run from window to window in government departments for every little thing.
