I-play’s David Gosen On Mobile Games

In this interview David Gosen, CEO of I-play, claims the mobile games industry is about casual games rather than mobile versions of console games, and that Hollywood is critical to the mobile industry to bring recognisable brands to the mobile game market place and increase recognition of the sector. “It’s very important that when you make a link with Hollywood you really drive into the brand and make the most of it. Make sure the gameplay reflects the values otherwise the consumers will really suffer in terms of their experience. You have to translate the value of the brand from the big screen to the very, very small screen.”
He also said that “in the first half of this year we’ve seen our revenues increase by over 90 per cent over the same period last year”.
In part two of the interview Gosen pushed the idea that mobile phones are the best platform for brands to use to offer more things to their fans. “2006 is going to be the first year that the unit sales of mobile games exceeds the units sales of console games. Clearly there is a significant revenue difference between those two businesses, but in terms of touch points, in terms of getting your brand in front of consumers and in front of a connected consumer – and by connected I mean mobile connected – there is no better platform.
