Nokia To Bet On Email And Instant Messaging As Next Growth Drivers In India

The Financial Express: For mobile handset leader Nokia, instant messaging and consumer e-mail are the next big growth drivers in Indian market. The company plans to partner with Indian Internet service providers to start these features on mobile phones. “I think the next big area would actually be instant messaging and consumer e-mail,” Nokia Asia-Pacific Vice President (Sales and Market Operations) Alex Lambeek told PTI, adding, “Already today, we work closely with Yahoo on instant messaging side. But we would also very much look at local players in India who are strong in instant messaging and consumer e-mail.”
He thinks the email and instant messaging have low penetration levels in India. What it likes to tap are those people who would like to have an e-mail but cannot afford to have a personal computer or a laptop. So these people can access their mails or have an instant messaging experience through the mobile phones. Good idea. The real market penetration can come in when multilingual features are incorporated.
