JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Educate and lead our internal departments and external clients regarding consumer trends and attitudes, both micro and macro.
- Partner with Programming development groups to identify and test show concepts
- Develop new ways of delivering entertainment and content through new platforms
- Conceive, design, field, analyze and disseminate qualitative research projects including focus groups, telephone research, online research, ethnographies, and trend analyses as well as custom research projects.
- Find, evaluate, partner with and manages external partners and suppliers to undertake necessary research studies required to fulfill business needs, and to demonstrate the power of the MTV brands and value of our audience.
- Partner with key clients to utilize audience, trend, and strategic insights to inform, support and enhance programming and development efforts, channel/sales foals and business development and strategy.
- Provide viewer profiles and consumer preferences for both establish and evolving channels, as well as brand and consumer research perspectives for new MTV Business initiatives and new business pitches for potential advertisers.
- Manage client relations and oversee distribution of information to all relevant departments.
- Cultivate general knowledge of MTVN, of media technology, and of media and cultural landscapes as a whole
- Contribute to brand strategy and strategic planning.
- Come up with creative solutions and approaches for increasingly complex media/business world.
- Keep abreast of all latest media, culture, technology and consumer lifestyle news and trends. Understand, and educate company on, audience’s behaviors, outlooks, values perceptions and ideas. Disseminate broad range of information throughout organization to a broad range of clients.
- Make presentations internally and externally, that inform as well as represent MTV research as an expert on the youth demographic.
- Be available to the Ad Sales force to advise and facilitate in client meetings
- Expertise: Demonstrate the ability to serve as an expert regarding the:
- Target audiences’ hopes, dreams, and motivators leading to media behaviors, beliefs, perceptions and opinions of our brands and as it relates to advertising/marketing message connection (should be able to broadly address reasons why any brand could benefit from MTV Marketing recommendations)
- Networks competitive position, ratings trends, core demos, programming schedule and philosophy
- Advertising clients: is familiar and conversant about key players, spending patterns, and marketing and sales objectives; seeks to identify new business opportunities based on consumer expertise of each network.
- MTV brand connections: leverage MTV as primary destination to communicate advertising partner’s messages to audiences with highest potential to find relevance, resonance, connection.
- MTV as a whole, and the Research Department’s contribution:
- Understands the various departments in the regions and in NY
- Is comfortable interacting with other (MTV Research and extended internal) departments on joint projects and to access information when directed
- Attends weekly channel Sales meetings with the willingness, desire and expectation to participate and represent the department and the work
- Seeks to own relevant research and consumer information and is comfortable presenting it internally and externally to agencies and clients
- Attends monthly research managers meetings with colleagues in the other offices to exchange ideas and solutions, share best practices, initiate consumer-driven, business-building research studies/projects, and build trusting, familiar relationships
- Assesses and delegates department workload; works with channel management to prioritize projects when needed
- Upholds personnel policies and procedures outlined by MTV senior research management and human resources
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4+ years media/market research experience
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- Strong knowledge of television and media space
- Strong knowledge of current cultural and media trends with respect to target audience
- Must be able to work long/off hours and travel
- Proven ability to work under pressure, handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Proven ability to consistently deliver on commitments
- Demonstrated ability to seek out & act quickly on opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to be persistent & resourceful in order to deliver results
- Demonstrated ability to address issues or problems in a timely manner
- Demonstrated ability to challenge & work to improve the way things are done
- Demonstrated ability to look for opportunities to build skills, knowledge and attain them
- Strong communication skills — written and oral
- Detail-oriented
- Strong PC skills (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel)
- Strong business and personal ethics
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4 year college degree
- Experience working with analytical database systems
- Agency/TV/Entertainment experience preferred
- Experience with youth culture a plus
