–CapCom has signed a deal with Verizon Wireless (and assumedly the guys behind Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?) to promote its game Millionaire Mobile 2007. People who buy the game before November 2 get a chance to appear on the TV show. Capcom has the rights to Millionaire after its purchase of Cosmic Infinity in a bid to fight sluggish mobile game sales. Midori Yuasa, president of Capcom Interactive, said: “In addition to improved execution, the Cosmic Infinity acquisition added some key production and sales talent to the organization, and gave Capcom access to popular casual brands such as Who Want’s To Be A Millionaire, ESPN Poker Club and Golf Channel Mobile Tour. Who Want’s To Be A Millionaire ’05 in particular continues to perform particularly well on mobile, and we have high hopes for the recently release Millionaire ’07 game.” There’s an interview with Cosmic Infinity here.
–Verizon has launched Halo: Mobile Portal, where customers with the right handsets can “customize their phones with official wallpapers and tones of their favorite Halo characters and scenes, check their most recent Xbox Live Gamertag statistics, send messages, get gameplay tips and receive weekly updates on new limited edition content”. It’s licensed by Bungie Studios and developed and published by In-Fusio.
–Hurray has made a mobile game based on the Chinese hit movie The Banquet. It’s an action role-playing game, but I’ll have to take their word on how successful the movie is…(review here).
–Danish developer and publisher Touchlink has inked a deal with IndiaGames to distribute more than 20 mobile titles, including brands like Garfield, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Van Helsing, Predator and Jurassic Park.
–Verisign is having another shot at mobile content, signing a partnership deal with games developer JoWooD to “deliver wildly popular computer, online- and videogames to mobile devices”.
