I can’t remember a time when the NFL hasn’t exerted control over media access although it’s been a while since it affected my own reporting. (It’s also been a while since I worked on behalf of other journalists trying to persuade various sports entities to open access to online media.) This year, though, it seems like it’s gotten even more controlling starting with the banning of most local TV crews on the sidelines during games and the increased number of teams closing most of practice and denying access to assistant coaches. Now comes word that the league is cracking down on game day internet coverage, still allowing live text game and post-game coverage along with still photos but banning video of post-game press conferences and interviews.
