Industry Moves: News Group Appoints Mullen Digital Strategy Director

Jim Mullen has been appointed director of digital strategy at News Group Newspapers, the News Corp subsidiary that runs The Sun and News of the World newspapers. The ad executive was formerly the board director of digital at Arc Worldwide and will be responsible for all the group’s digital platforms including the websites of The Sun and News of The World. Mullen said the company has an appetite for digital innovation and that he is looking forward to creating multimedia capabilities; earlier this year the group won the rights to show Premiership football on mobile in a partnership with BSkyB. The appointment of an ad exec underlines News Group’s commercial focus, following on from The Sun’s local ad partnership with Oodle.
— NGN MD Mike Anderson also has brought on former Yahoo European sales VP Mark Chippendale to oversee cross-platform ad sales.
