Judy McGrath Staying at MTV, Post Freston-Firing

We missed it earlier this morning: Judy McGrath has made peace with herself and the new Viacom management: the MTV networks chairman intends to stay, despite the fighting of her mentor Tom Freston last month.
In this New York Times story, McGrath dismissed the criticism of not buying MySpace as both ill-founded and unfair. “We made hundreds of millions in digital this year and that is a growth opportunity. Granted, it’s easier to spend a lot of money buying a single digital company. But now our company has the ability to connect television and mobile and online. We have tremendous library assets. We have a lot of tools already working.” Also, she said no sense to single out Overdrive as a point of comparison to the other sites. “You can’t compare MTV Overdrive to MySpace…Overdrive is one of 7 broadband channels, and 134 networks worldwide. It’s absurd.”
