According to Chinese analysts Analysys International China’s Java app market has grown, reaching RMB140 (US$17.7 million) in Q2 2006, an increase of 17% over the first quarter, although growth is slowing for a number of reasons. In the press release there’s a graph with different figures, and I can’t work out why the discrepancy is there. There’s also talk of rampant “self-consumption”, which I assume means companies buying their own products to increase their place in the rankings, but there is a crack-down on that by the telcos so the only result is expected to be “crush and perdition”. The main point of the press release is that the Chinese market for Java apps is growing relatively strongly, although there are a lot of dubious practices going on by the service providers.
