Moneycontrol.com reports that Bharti Telesoft’s deal with UK based Vimio will enable live TV to be streamed via GPRS and Edge. Vimio’s high compression technology is being tested and should see a commercial launch in 4-6 months. Bharti Telesoft expects a consumer base to be between 50,000 to 100,000 in the first year of operation, and is also open to tie-ups with operators other than Bharti Airtel.
I wonder what sort of a deal content providers will get for mobile TV via 2G, and how this service will be priced. This is also one way of whetting the appetite for 3G services.
