One of the first online movie-studio divisions, Warner Bros. Online, has been shut down, part of a series of cost-saving cuts at WaBo studio that began last fall. Warner is laying off 19 employees from the online unit. Forty people will be redeployed into the one-year-old Warner Bros. Digital Distribution unit, or into another group. An additional 22 open positions will be reallocated throughout the company.
For those of you who remember, the unit was created to promote WaBo movies and TV shows, and it expanded in the late 1990s into a full-blown entertainment destination called Entertaindom, and you know what happened to that one…
The unit’s execs have now spread out through the industry: Jeff Weiner, Jim Moloshok and Terry Semel.
