Cable’s free ride may be ending soon — and the executives know it. The Journal reports that pay-TV companies are starting to get serious about the Internet TV challenge. In particular Comcast is bolstering its video-on-demand offerings, and Time Warner Cable is experimenting with time-shifting options. There’s not a lot new here — the piece is a good roundup for those new to IPTV on what has happened in this market this past year — but there is a sense that cable executives are taking the threat seriously.
