Job Summary
Responsible for the achievement of Thomson Gale‘s financial goals through the development and implementation of overall Academic marketing strategies, as well as tactical plans and marketing programs in Academic markets. Also responsible for programs to address customer loyalty, aggressive expansion of new proprietary online products and services into existing Academic markets and new growth markets, and migration of print product sales. Provides leadership to and development opportunities for staff. Fosters an organizational climate for collaboration and teamwork within Marketing and across functions and geographic locations.
Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
— Leads in the development of the market segment’s strategic plan including market sizing, trends analysis and the development of business models to expand Thomson Gale’s presence in market segments. Coordinates and distributes market research data as appropriate.
— Builds and administers marketing programs that provide maximum results and performance to achieve sales and revenue goals.
— Drives the development of marketing plans for multi-channel selling strategies to ensure that products and content are fully leveraged.
— Determines the proper deployment of marketing resources to successfully attain revenue, product line and market share goals and, in conjunction with senior management, determines which types of marketing resources are best suited to accomplish set goals.
— Incorporates strategic development and implementation of supportive marketing resources, sales activities and participatory programs designed to achieve long-range goals, address content migration issues, retain existing customers and gain new market share.
— Contributes to development and execution of overall Thomson Gale marketing strategies and plans, including customer segmentation, branding and messaging, pricing and transition to solutions selling.
— Collaborates in the preparation of annual marketing plans and formulation of goals for team members by setting goals with direct report managers to support achievement of the plan.
— Develops and administers appropriate tracking mechanisms to monitor, evaluate, adjust as needed, and accurately report on all key aspects of Marketing’s performance.
— Provides effective leadership to assist marketing and sales management and staff with business problems and train them to improve and develop best business practices focused on the customer.
— Oversees department’s staffing, training, and performance management to recruit, retain and develop a high performing team, including leadership development for the management team.
Qualifications
Qualifications – Education and/or Experience
— Bachelor’s degree in business, education, liberal arts or related field required, with an MBA preferred.
— A minimum of 5 years of progressive marketing, business development and sales management experience in the information, digital media and/or publishing industry is required; prefer 8 – 10 years of progressive experience including experience in designated market segments for which this individual will be responsible.
— Must have a strong working knowledge of financial procedures and controls, technology orientation with electronic products and services, and strong networking and negotiating skills to posiyourtion the company for positive growth.
— Must be a strategic thinker, capable of identifying trends and opportunities in existing and new markets.
— Must be able to communicate Thomson Gale’s vision and translate marketing strategy into operational goals.
— Must have proven analytical and tactical planning skills.
— Proven leadership skills and the ability to build relationships as well as lead and motivate others through influence are necessary.
— Must have management experience in the development of market analyses used to determine customer needs and the formation of pricing and marketing policies.
— Must have forecasting skills for molding plans and programs into day-to-day operations.
