Mobile TV Now More Successful Than Ringtones — Vodafone

(Subscription required) “Mobile TV is now bigger than ringtones, the stalwart of mobile content,” said Vodafone UK head of category management Jonathan Bill. “This is the coming of age for mobile TV.” Apparently over half of all new 3G customers choose to subscribe to mobile TV, and Bill said one of the reasons it is so popular is that it is ubiquitous, you don’t need a specific application or phone.
Competing UK operator Orange said that mobile TV and video combined was approaching ringtone levels, and that “the growth of mobile TV is the growth of 3G”.
