Samsung applies amibient light algorithms for brighter handheld displays

Samsung_ddiTired of trying to read your smartphone or handheld screen in full sunlight only to wish it was 12 hours later and dark? I can’t stand that washed out look on a mobile device when I’m out and about, and apparently neither can the folks at Samsung. They’ve got new LCD display technology that adapts to sunlight by measuring ambient light and applying an algorithm for the optimal display output.

Now don’t throw away that mini-sunshade just yet; Samsung won’t be producing these until the end of the year. Perhaps the even better part is that the display will only use as much power as needed when inside under artificial light, which might help us in the old battery life department too! Oh, please don’t ask me about the picture provided; they don’t look like mobile device displays to me either: they’re more like those root-beer flavored Freeze Pops my mom used to keep in the icebox.
